This unit is about the importance of lesson planning. Lesson planning helps the teacher set goals for their learners, manage the time of the parts of the lesson, and provide a record for the teacher themselves or if a substitute teacher needs to understand where the class is in their learning. The teacher should not adhere completely to their lesson plan. It is important to be flexible, and let the students spend more time on activities that they might be benefiting the best. Also, sticking to a lesson plan completely may have the effect of too much teacher talk time and consequently not enough student talk time. I learned in this lesson that it is good for the teacher to keep track of and plan things, so that they can keep organised and readily adapt to the needs of the students. Most of all, a lesson plan makes sure the teacher can get the most out of the class time and not waste time coming up with ideas for exercises or activities!
