In this chapter, I have learnt about the various methods of teaching English to students which includes Grammar - translations, Task-Based Learning etc. I have also learnt about the widely used method which is ESA (Engage, Study and Action) which incorporates the different types of teaching methods. The three stages of ESA allows teachers to effectively teach students English starting with Engage. The purpose of the Engage stage is to aroused the students' interest with the topic. It can be done by teachers constructing activities for the students which act as an intro to the topic which they will be learning in class.
Following the Engage step is Study. In this step, teachers should start teaching students new vocabularies or text and allow students to do exercises or worksheets for them to further understand the language. Lastly is the Activate stage. The purpose of the Activate stage is for students to actively use English to communicate with each other either by activities such as debates or role-play.
I have also learnt about the few ways to incorporate the ESA method such as the Straight Arrow method or Boomerang method. A lesson should start with Engage and end with Activate for students to learn English effectively.
