This unit summarized a number of teaching approaches and methods for TESL, including positive and negative aspects of each. Themes which seem to appear across the methods include the need for students to speak, the need for students to feel comfortable, and the need for students to be engaged.
For each of these needs to be met, lessons should not be entirely predictable, and teacher feedback and corrections should be done with due consideration. For example, in the ESA method, corrections are to be concentrated in the study section of the lesson and kept to a minimum elsewhere.
