Teaching the future tenses of English language can sometimes be challenging as there are seven possible ways to express future time events. Alongside with Future Simple, Future Simple Continuous, Future Perfect and Future Perfect Continuous we have “be going + infinitive” construction as well as Present Simple and Present Continuous which can be used to refer to the future in specific contexts. Teacher should first introduce Future Simple, and then when students are comfortable using it, gradually introduce other future tenses. It is very important that the students understand the difference in meaning that each future tense conveys so they are able to them correctly and appropriately. Even though future tenses can be confusing to English language learners, a teacher can make it easier for them by carefully structuring and sequencing the lessons.
