This lesson showed me the importance of planning a lesson and how to go about doing so. The question, “Should we plan lessons?” is answered with differences of opinions. Some say that it creates a more fixed teacher-centered lesson, and it is true that too much planning can make the lessons rigid and prevents the teacher from being flexible to the needs of the students.
I learned that it is very difficult for inexperienced teachers to be able to be as flexible. He/she might find it difficult to conduct a lesson and wouldn’t be prepared to deal with some of the language problems that may show up from a lesson. I understand that writing a lesson plan has a number of important functions: An aid to planning, a working document, and a record. I learned how a lesson plan should be written, how to be organized, what should be included in a lesson plan in order to have a clear guide as to what I want to achieve and how to do it.
I also learned that it would be helpful to monitor my lesson in order to improve my skills. Lesson planning has taught me that there are a number of special issues which I must consider when planning a lesson, flexibility, goals, revision, variety, and balance.
