In this unit we studied sentences in general and parts of the speech they are formed by. Nouns names people, animals, places, things, qualities, states and can be common, proper, compound, abstract, collective. They have plural form that is usually created by adding an s. Nouns can be countable or uncountable that can have an effect on other parts of the sentence. Adjectives are used to describe nouns such as people or things. The comparitive and superlative forms of adjectives are used to compare nouns. Articles can be indefinite (a, an) or definite (the). Their use mainly depends on whether we are referring to any member of a group or to a specific member of a group. There are certain rules of there use that we should remember. Verbs are used to describe action or state. All verbs are transitive or intransitive. English verbs have four principal forms, such as: base form, past simple, past participle and present participle. There are three auxiliary verbs (do, be, have) which help form a tense or an expression. Adverbs add meaning or information to the action, quality or statedenoted by a verb. There are five types of adverbs: manner, place, time, degree, frequency. If more than one adverb is used in the sentence they have a certain order: place-manner-time. A gerund is the -ing form of a verb used as a noun. Pronouns are words that are used instead of nouns or noun phrases and can be personal, possessive, reflexive or relative. Prepositions show the relationship between a noun or a pronoun or other words in the sentence. Their types are: time/date, movement, place/position. Conjunctions join words or groups in a sentence.
