There are different ways of evaluating students' levels and progress: tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. Tutorial can take place with the whole group or with individual students. It is useful to ask the students to evaluate their course and the results of it can be discussed for the improvement of the future lessons.
Tests can be given at different stages in a course. A placement test is useful to assist the formation of groups of students at the same level and allows the teacher to gauge the language level of the student. Progress tests are useful to let teachers and students know what language items need more work and and encourage students to review.
