The past tenses have similarities with the present tenses. In forming the past simple tense it is important to know regular and irregular forms of the verbs. The past simple is used for actions coompleted at a definite time in the past, so: for a past action when the time is given, when the time is asked about, when the action clearly tok place at a definite time even though this time is not mentioned, sometimes the time becomes definite as a result of a question and answer in the present perfect. To activate you can use card games, narrative story, Curriculum Vitae, interview role-play, discussing past events. The past continuous is formed similar to the present continuous, just the auxiliary verb 'be' is in past tense (was/were). This tense is used for interrupted past actions; used without a time expression, it can indicate gradual development that took place in the past; it can express an action, which began before that time and probably continuied after it; in desriptions. Ideas for activate stage are: detective game, use of diaries, telling stories. The past perfect verbs represent actions that occured before other actions in the past. It is formed in the similar way as in the present perfect but the verb 'have' is used in the past tense. To practice this tense we can use story telling, give the situation and ask to think about the reasons of it. The past perfect continuous is used to talk about longer actions or situations in the past that had been going continuously up to the past moment that we are thinking about. The past perfect continuous is formed similar to the present perfect continuous just have is used in the past tense 'had'.
