This unit talks about the different approaches to teach a new language. In this unit, I learned about how to use the ESA method to teach, vocabulary, grammar, and function.
I understand there are four things that students need to do with a new language; be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how it is constructed and be able to practice it. I learned that vocabulary is important to students, especially at the early stages when students are motivated to learn the basics words they need to get by in a language. When it comes to new language structures, students will need to know what the language means, how it is used, what the grammatical form is and how it is said and written.
Language function deals with inviting, refusing, agreeing and disagreeing, suggesting, etc. Teaching it also deal with the use of formal, informal, tentative, technical, etc.
