In this chapter, I have learnt about evaluating students. There are a few ways to evaluate a student's language level which are tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. Tutorials can be conducted during the end of a chapter or at the end of a week to review the lesson and find out whether there are any problems etc. Evaluation by the students may be conducted by a questionnaire or a survey to know how the students thinks about the lesson. The last way to evaluate students is by tests. There are a few types of tests used. At the start of the semester, placement tests are conducted to gauge the level of students and place them in a suitable class. Progress tests are conducted throughout the course to gauge what has be learned and remembered by the students. A progress test should include reading, writing, speaking and listening. Diagnostic test is similar to placement test which is conducted at the start of the course to allow the teacher to prepare suitable materials. Practice tests are tests which are similar to external test such as IELTS to allow students to prepare for the test.
