In this unit, there are fourteen modal verbs that are focused on. Modal verbs are used before verbs to add specific meanings to the verb including a sense of confidence or obligation. Examples of modal verbs include should, could, would, and many more. They can also be used in situations where a level of formality is needed. For example, "May I speak now?" An effective may to teach modal verbs is to use role play with the students as modal verbs are usually used in specific types of situations that can be simulated. There are three categories of clauses, including the independent clause, the dependent clause, and the relative clause which can be defining or non defining.
