The simple past tense is used to talk about a completed action in a time before now. The simple past is the basic form of past tense in English. The time of the action can be in the recent past or the distant past and action duration is not important. For example: my uncle died last year. I went to the market yesterday. And the past perfect tense indicates that an action was completed (finished) at some point in the past before something else happened. This tense is formed with the past tense form of "to have" (HAD) plus the past participle of the verb, which can be either regular or irregular in form. For example: I had saved my document before the computer crashed. The manager had gone out, when I arrived the office.
