The skill of organizing the class, individual students within that class and what occurs within that class is what is called classroom management. The teacher, perhaps, is the one of the most important resources for its accomplishment and this can be achieved by the use of this/her eyes, voice and gesture. Each of these can be use in a certain way for example the eyes can be use to hold attention, the voice can be use to speak slowly and clearly, and the gesture can be used to reduce the teacher talk time.
How to group students for class activities is also in the classroom management, and there some types of grouping arrangement. It can be arranged as a whole class, individual, and pair work. Each of them has potential positive and negative features.
The classroom arrangement itself can help. And how it should be arrange could depend on some factors such as the age of the students, the physical space, and the available materials. There are three types of arrangement; orderly rows, circle and horseshoes, and separate tables. And all of them have pros and cons.
There are some issues that need to be considered for classroom management, and these include writing on the board, giving students individual attention, the use of teacher talk time, giving instructions, rapport building, and discipline.
