Marlboro, New Mexico TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This unit is practical; it’s where the teacher had the opportunity to utilize all that has been covered from unit one to unit 5. In the first video, the teacher started the class by telling the students a story about what they were going to learn. He then moved on to teach the class by eliciting the target language from the students.
I believe that the teacher missed out a few things and this could have made a few students lag behind. In this case, only the smart students will follow. Some of the languages that teacher used my easily discourage other students especially where the student made a mistake and the teacher said “no, no you don’t say it like that, that’s wrong”. The teacher did not explain to students what they were expected to do with the sheets he handed them and to make it worse the teacher kept checking on his cellphone, this is a very bad example as it could prompt students to do the same. Finally, when it came to the game, the teacher did not give students the instruction on how to play the game.
Video two was much better, the teacher started the class by introducing himself and ask for students names, that helps in building a rapport., he went on to elicit the target language from the students. The teacher also used real objects like students a plate, pictures, and money to explain the language point., he praised students that made contributions in class. Good use of gestures to prompt students. The teacher also used a range of activities such as pairwork and workgroup work. Personally, I think the second class was much more effective than the first one.
