As a martial arts teacher, I have never used a lesson plan. The reason is that the classes are so mixed with various levels that the class is driven by who is present. The college level courses I have taught have lacked the need for a detailed lesson plan. Usually the syllabus was used to keep us on track. So making lessons plans will be new to me. I can see their value, but I will quickly become a teacher that lets the class drive the direction of the lessons since I feel that lesson plans take away from student needs by moving the class too slow, too fast, or in a direction that does not benefit the students. I will, however, record what the class does each day as the record is a good idea to have.
