Pronunciation and phonology. There are phonemes in English that represent the sounds, and these phonemes help the students to know how to say the words. As we know that a letter in English can have different sounds. For example the sound of the letter o in the word (go) is totally different from the sound in the word (done). The as the letter s sound in the world (sugar) and the word (suit). So knowing how to pronounce the word correctly is vital. There are two issues that need to stressed with international phonetic alphabet, first we are no longer concerned on how the word is spelled, and we are only concerned on the sound needed. There are two different sounds in English; consonants sound and vowel sounds. The consonant sounds can be voiced or unvoiced as in, band p. the vowels are divided into two; pure vowels, and dipthongs. The manner of articulation has six different ways; plosive, affricatives, fricatives, nasal, lateral, and approximants.

The patterns for intonation are rise-fall , as in I haven’t been there for a month. And this indicates that the speech is over. The second pattern is fall-rise example; you didn’t really do that, did you?
