This unit covers theories, methods, and techniques of teaching, with the major focus on EFL methodology, mistakes, and feedbacks. The methods include Grammar-Translation, Audio-Lingualism, Presentation, Practice and Production, Task-based Learning, Communicative Language Teaching, Community Language Learning, The Silent Way, Suggestopedia, The lexical approach. Its argued that with many different teaching approaches and methods, there is no one single best method but rather it all depends on one’s personality, the culture of the students, and their needs.
The emphasis, however, is on the use of ESA (Engage, Study, and Activate) for the trainees and the new teacher. It is further reaffirmed that there is the need for all the three ESA elements to be present in most lessons to help give a balanced range of classroom activities to the learners.
The unit also high lights the importance of giving students feedback and concludes with corrections, correction techniques, when to correct students and by who and what should be corrected and lastly the general guidance on lesson planning. I feel I have learnt a lot, especially on different activities to use in different stages of the lesson.
