In this unit it was interesting to able to see a positive and a negative example of classroom techniques. The second video showed a teacher who was prepared, positive, and had clearly thought through a lesson plan that had clear goals, thoughtfully designed technique and good timing. In contrast the first video showed a teacher who was lazy, unprepared, and rude. Ultimately the first teacher really didn't seem to care very much about his students or if they reached the learning outcomes.
I thought it was interesting to see how the teacher in the second video guided his students towards the learning outcome step by step. Conversely the teacher in the first video just rammed the concept at the students and got frustrated when they did not immediately understand what he was trying to get them to engage in.
As a side note I thought there was a strange cultural mistake in the second video. It's hard to imagine why a teacher in Thailand would try to rely upon a Christian binary example for a lesson. Thailand is almost 100% Buddhist. Thus the students in the class are confused when he references Satan. Maybe this was a little Easter egg that was dropped into the video to see if TEFL students noticed an example of a lack of cultural competence.
