Unit 5 can be said to be one of the most important units for this course, especially for new teachers. Without lesson planning, new teachers could easily lose track. The points out the importance of planning a lesson and they include; An aid to planning, a working document, and a record. Some of the basic principles of planning a lesson mentioned in this unit include; keeping the plan simple, a teacher should not script the lesson, structuring the lesson plan and maintaining the same structure, writing down the anticipated time, checking the balance of skills and keeping the lesson plan flexible and open to adoptation.
Furthermore, the teacher needs to include the following factors when planning a lesson; Learners objectives, personal aims, language points, teaching aid, anticipated problems, procedures, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, date and time and the teacher's name.
I have learned a lot, I know what to include and what not in include in the lesson plan. I have also realized that including timing is very important as this could help the teacher not to spend too much time on one activity, and prefer to follow this format, for now, later I can always make changes depending on the circumstances.
