There are many tests teachers can use to see a students language level. Many of them are similar but ultimately have different purposes. It is important for students at the beginning to take a diagnostic and or placement test. This gives the teacher valuable information as to where the students English level is and what should be taught. A progress test allows teachers to see what information students have learned and for the students to see where they are in their learning journey. Practice exams are used for students who plan to take external exams and may want to see how close they are to their goal. There are many external exams students can take as well. The exams they should take depends on many things such as where they will be using the English, their learning level, and what they will be using the English for.
