Unit 18 - Modals, Phrasal Verbs and Passive Voice - this unit covers modal auxiliary verbs and the passive voice in detail, and also a brief overview of ohrasal verbs and relative clauses. Yhe unit presents the basic rules regarding the modal verbs, which are: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn't to and ought to. The different ideas that can be expressed using modal verbs are presented by this lesson. Modal verbs can be used to express different degrees of formality. There are many uses of modal verbs, such as polite requests, formal permission, certain degrees of certainty, need or necessity, obligation, prohibition, lack of necessity, strong necessity, etc. The lesson also focusses on Passive Voice. There are two types of voices used in English, the active and the passive voice. Regarding the relative clauses, there are independent clauses, dependent clauses and relative clauses. The lessons ends by presenting the phrasal verbs, the three types of phrasal verbs. I have learnt in this lesson how to make a better use of modals in sentences, especially because, as I have learnt from the table with modals, not all of the expressions presented are "true" modals, but do express similar ideas.
