I learned from this course the different positions a teacher has within the classroom, the differences between adult, teen, and young learners, and the ideal characteristics of good teachers and good learners. It's important to know that the teacher has different roles and positions within their own classroom, since a mostly 'Manager' teacher might bore students (since they are mostly lecturing and not engaging with the students), but a mostly 'Monitor' teacher may not be able to motivate students and model the language for them frequently, since it is a student-centric way of learning. However, it is very important to know your student audience to determine which position is more appropriate, and should be used more frequently. A mostly 'Monitor' teacher is probably fine with Adult (18+) students, since they are generally more motivated, having signed up for the class themselves, however the teacher should be more sensitive when acting as an 'Assessor' with these students (as well as Pre-Teen students) since they are generally more sensitive to criticism and less likely to experiment with the language and make mistakes. Lastly, it is important to know the characteristics of a good teacher, to have a goal to strive for in your own teaching style, and it is important to recognize good learners in your classroom so that you can praise them and give more support to those that are less willing to listen to the language and ask questions.
