Unit 20 addresses common problem situations that new teachers may encounter in the classroom. It begins by recommending strategies for your first lesson in a new classroom that will establish a rapport with the students, determine their language levels, and identify their interests and motivations. Unit 20 includes ideas to work with a classroom of split language level learners. After splitting the classroom into two groups based on language level, the teacher can do two activities with the same material, use different materials for the same type of activity, or pair students from the stronger group with students from the weaker group.
