Reported and direct speech may be the hardest grammar topic for me thus far. I will definitely have to go over it plenty more times. For direct speech many of the statements whether past or present become a past tense form in the reported speech. It was easier for me to understand the conditional statements however. The form and usages are very clear. They can be memorized and understood very easily when there is proper explanation. Zero and first conditionals are the easiest to understand since they deal more closely that are for sure or highly likely. Second, third and mixed focus more on what could be or what isn't. It is easy to confuse the different conditions. The statements they are used for also can cause confusion.
