I learned from this unit how to organize the classroom to accompany a lesson. If teacher is always standing at the front of an orderly-row classroom, chances are the teacher will have a difficult time building rapport with the students since it doe not create a very intimate environment and the teacher is always dominant, so it is likely that there will be more teacher talk time than student talk time. However, sometimes the only option for student seating is an orderly row, since it is the best option for very large class sizes. When this is the case, it is very helpful to be aware of how to organize students into groups to maximize student talk time and increase a sense of group belonging. If your class size is very large and you are unable to organize it into a more student-centric way, such as group tables, then you may have to overcompensate with your position and group activity organizing by sitting down more frequently and having the students work in small groups together. This would ideally increase the overall student talking time, allow students to correct each other and allow the stronger students to support the weaker students, and it would decrease the overall dependence on a teacher-dominate environment.
