In this unit we learned about the receptive skills when learning a new language. How we normally read or listen for a purpose or for entertainment,and sometimes we mix both. How we tend to use different tools to understand or get our purpose achieved while reading something by using predictive skills , scanning for an specific info, skimming to get a general idea of the text, or we read carefully to get all the details and instructions, and how sometimes we use context to get to understand a unknown word in a difficult text. How important is for a teacher to choose wisely the topic and language level of text and audios, so the students can get fully learning opportunity from the text. Topics that may rise interest from the students for sure will be accepted with more enthusiasm than boring topics (we as teachers, should try to provide a wide range of topics, so all kinds of students may get catered for in the end). Also, authentic text that students will be able to understand great part of it would be always more challenging and will give more learning opportunities than non-authentic ones (with leveled up language). Also, helping the students to grow interest in the engage phase for the topic that will be discussed at the text from the next phase is always a good idea, so students will be more open to the subject when it comes up.
