This lesson describes a series of concerns around teaching the first initial class as well as providing some advice for beginner teachers. A teacher may have a completely new group or an existing group of students. In either case, a good teacher will attempt to build rapport with and among the students. Generally, during the first lesson, teachers don't use the course book and focus on engaging activities to explore what level the students are at and to "break the ice" in a group setting. Teachers can use different tools for dealing with large and new groups which include using group work and attempting to create activities that speak to the level of the majority of the class.
