This unit discussed teachers, students and the relationship between them. Specifically, the lesson addresses the qualities and roles of a good teacher. The importance of a good teacher's ability to efficiently switch between these roles when necessary is emphasized. Similarly, the unit goes over the qualities of good learners and the different levels of language learning that exist. It is helpful to keep in mind the way that age, culture etc, play a role in the attitude, behavior and desire to learn each student has. I learned that different ages truly have different attitudes about learning language. For example, adults who sign up themselves are typically very motivated. In contrast, younger learners may not be so motivated. It was interesting to me that even within the category of young learners, there were differences in attitude in behavior. For instance, the youngest group of learners are typically open to learning when it involves fun, digestible games. However, post-puberty teens are often unmotivated or self-conscious. It is important to be aware of these differences so that the teacher can ensure they are gearing their lessons to the students in the most effective way!
