Lesson planning helps inexperienced teachers to have direction and be prepared to deal with some of the language problems that may arise from such a lesson. The writing of lesson plans has some important functions: it is an aid to planning, a working document and a record which help us (as a teacher) think logically through the stages with available time, keep us on target and act as a record of what a class has done.
There are many ways to write down a plan, however, we should keep it simple and flexible but still fit the lesson well. Before starting a lesson, we should make sure that we have the plan, the needed aids and be ready to make the lesson go smoothly.
A great lesson plan includes: learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems for both students and teacher and their solution, procedure, phase, timing and interaction. Furthermore, we can add some information of the class such as class level, number of students, date/time and teacher’s and observer’s names.
A good teacher will want to monitor the quality of his lessons by evaluating and making notes of the strengths and weaknesses in order for him to develop himself.
