Communication is one of the most important purposes of learning language, as a result, Speaking and Writing are the two productive skills that teachers should help students to develop. It is essential that teachers should bring the learning interest to the students so that they see the point in doing something and want to participate.
There are three types of Speaking activities: Controlled Activities (Accurate based), Guided Activities (Accurate based but a little more creative and productive) and Creative Communication (Fluency based). Students probably face with a number of barriers to communication. As teachers, we need to understand their reasons and create a comfortable atmosphere in order to help them overcome those issues and encourage their interaction.
Writing is often neglected because many teachers often relegate it to homework to avoid ‘quiet time' in the classroom. There are four issues related to writing that need to be considered: handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, and creative writing. It is our responsibility to let the students being exposed to and given the opportunities to practise with many different styles of writing by both individual and pair/group works.
