Unit 6 introduces the past tense system. In the English language, past tense forms share a very similar system and structure with the corresponding present tense forms (and also with future tenses).
In a nutshell, the three forms Continuous, Perfect and Perfect Continuous feature an auxiliary verb (to be or to have) and some specific form of another verb. Now, the tense of the AUXILIARY VERB uniquely determines the tense of the form; if the auxiliary verb is in the present it will be a present form, and if the auxiliary verb is in the past it will be a past form.
Unit 6 proceeds to provide more detailed information about the grammatical construction and fundamental rules of the four past tense forms, past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. Similar to Unit 4, it also gives examples of irregular verbs, of common usages, of typical errors, and of activate stage teaching ideas. All information is presented in a well organized format that makes this Unit a good quick reference document for past tenses.
