This unit focused on deepening the understanding of past tenses and their uses.
One thing I found especially difficult was the number of exceptions in past tense conjugation. While it’s not difficult for me, I remember learning the exceptions in other languages and how boring and difficult learning them is. The number of exceptions in English is daunting.
This unit was the first time I have ever heard of some of these tenses and it made me consider my use of language in the past tense in a way I haven’t had to before. Learning the differences in usage between the tenses is difficult and confusing; I’m not sure if I can always understand when to use them based on the definitions. However, compared to before I read this unit, my understanding of the usages of the past tenses is more complete.
