Classroom management is the skill of organising and managing the class, having a friendly, relaxed manner and maintaining discipline. A teacher can utilize his physical presence to get the students’ attention (make use of eye-contact, gestures, teacher’s voice and using students’ name effectively) or restore order in the classroom. There are some popular classroom arrangements: orderly rows, circles and horseshoes, separate tables. Each seating arrangement is ideal for different situations and should be adjusted according to different factors such as space availability and students’ personality. There is no real limit to the way a teacher can group students, even though factors such as class sizr and classroom furniture can be problematic. Activities geared to the whole class, students working on their own, pairs and larger group are all appropriate and each has its own pros and cons in the classroom. The balance between Teacher talking time (TTT) or Student talking time (STT) depends on the the lesson and level of students. TTT has its pros and cons but teachers should only speak more when they have to present or clarrify, provide language input, give instructions and set up activities, establish rapport. To establish rapport between teachers-students or students-students, the teachers should maintain discipline, give individual attention and instructions to their students, organize more suitable activities to create the relaxed atmosphere.
