As I have mentioned previously, because I have studied language so extensively in my career, this lesson was mostly a review for me of information I was already familiar with. I am very familiar in verb tenses and how they work across different languages, though I have never actually formally studied English tenses specifically. I appreciated how this unit clarified that English has three tenses, and then four different moods (as I would call them, though the unit used aspects) of those tenses. This unit focused on the four moods of the present tense: present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. The first two moods are focused on the present, while the second two moods point towards the past for actions that are either still ongoing or have implications in the present. Each section gave examples for how to form the tense/mood, its specific usage, common student mistakes, and some ideas for activities to do in the activate phase of an ESA lesson plan to work with that verb tense. I particularly appreciated the common mistakes and activity suggestions, as I think that information will greatly enhance my teaching.
