By reading this chapter I learned that managing a classroom is all about being flexible and responding to the specific needs of the students in a class. It is important to appropriately use eye contact, gestures, student names, and one's own voice. Additionally, there are pros and cons when it comes to how to group students and how to arrange a classroom. For example, traditional rows in a classroom don't create the most intimate atmosphere, but they are especially appropriate for very large classes. It is also important to maximize student talk time while still maintaining necessary teacher talk time. Instructions should be concise and easy to understand, and good rapport is essential.
