Unit 17 discussed equipment and teacher aids for the classroom. It opened with a discussion on the use of a blackboard, whiteboard or flip cart and then discussed the use of interactive whiteboards. This was followed by a discussion on the use of overhead projectors and visual aids (real objects, pictures and photos). Next, the lesion discussed the use of worksheets and work cards followed by a discussion on audio aids such as a cassette recorder and CD player. Then, the lesson discussed the use of videos, DVDs and video cameras in the classroom. The lesson then discussed the use of printed material which includes dictionaries, course books, resource books, and photocopies. Dictionaries whether in book or computer form, may be the single most important resource available to the student. The last topic that was discussed was the use of computers and internet resources available to the teacher. A long list of internet resources with websites was provided as a resource for the teacher. This lesson taught me that there are many resources available to the teacher that he/she can use in the classroom to aid him in teaching students English. Also, I learned that the teacher needs to think through how he will utilize the equipment and make a plan for its use in the classroom in order to for it not to be a hindrance to the lesson being taught but rather an asset.
