Grandin, North Dakota TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
In this Study Unit we learned about classroom management and the crucial skills and techniques necessary to organise and manage a classroom and its students successfully.
First and foremost we learned about the direct interaction between teacher-and-student and the importance of controlled and appropriate use of eye contact, gesture and voice. We also learned about the significance of using students' names and establishing a good rapport with students.
We learned that it is important to establish a healthy teacher-student relationship based on equality, trust and respect in order to create a conducive learning environment. This in return effects the teachers ability to manage and maintain classroom discipline.
Teacher who are able to manage themselves and their workload successfully will be able to manage their students more effectively and maintaining discipline. However, we have learned from this unit that there are also other external variables that can influence students behaviour and affect classroom discipline, such as family problems, low-self esteem, peer pressure, classroom size, lack of respect, and boredom.
Thus we have also learned that managing the physical classroom environment is essential to creating a conducive learning environment. This includes the seating arrangement, accessibility of resources, and the teachers ability to move about the classroom to interact with students.
These factors will influence the teacher ability to manage his/her classroom successfully and will also influence how the teacher will conduct his/her lessons. In other words: teacher talk time, giving instructions, providing individual attention, and grouping students in a manner that is appropriate to the activities.
