I learned 4 aspects of the present tense in this unit.
Present simple, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. Each tense is formed grammatically and their usage is slightly different.
For example, present simple tense use for facts, routines, habits and general experience without specific detail. Present continuous use for actions in progress at the time of speaking or around the time of speaking. Present perfect use for indefinite and un finished past actions with present result. Present perfect continuous use for incomplete and ongoing activities with duration or recently finished activities with present result.
When we use continuous form, we have to care for some words that usually don’t use with continuous form, e.g. like, know. When we use present perfect, we have to know how use ‘since’ and ‘for’. (since: with point of time, for: with period of time)
A lot of Asian students often confuse in this tense system. I want to get a skill of explain of this system very clearly for them.
