In the English language, words can be considered as the smallest elements that have distinctive meanings. Based on their use and functions, words are categorized into parts of speech. throughout my reading of Unit 2 I have learned that there are 8 major parts of speech in the English Grammar: noun, pronoun, verb, adverb, adjective, conjunction, preposition, and interjection.
Nouns refers to words that are used to name persons, things, animals, places, ideas, or events; that can be broken down into different kinds of nouns. Then you have the pronouns that are simply words used to replace nouns, adjectives which are describing words for nouns and pronouns. the verb however for me is the most important of all because with this part of speech I doubt sentences could be existent. Adverbs are also describing words for for the different parts of speech like adjectives, verbs and adverbs itself. Preposition I have learnt speaks to location and time frames for example; above, below, throughout, outside, before, near, and since. Conjunctions are those parts of speech that joins words or phrases together. these words are and, yet, but, for, nor, or, and so. Interjection, the part of speech I learned today formerly by its name is used when expressing emotions and is in most instances followed my an exclamation mark, for example; ouch! wow!
