This lesson gave me a better understanding of the various ways the teacher will influence the class and how important it is to know when to participate and be part of the group and when to distance oneself and let the students take the lead. It's necessary always to encourage the students and correct them in a way that will encourage them to remain motivated and ask questions. The differences between adults and children are important and should be recognized by the teacher. The teacher needs to know that children may have to take ESL in school without choosing it, whereas adults generally want to further their careers or cultural awareness and have made a decision to study. What the teacher knows about the students' choices will help him or her to establish good relationships. I learned how levels of learning are approximately defined. I also feel the definitions of the various roles the teacher plays can be put into use so that I won't spend most of the class time talking, but rather establishing some guidelines and goals and then encouraging the students to use their knowledge and improve on it.
