This unit discusses the different materials a teacher can use in the classroom. The article explains the difference in authentic and created materials. It also gives pros and cons of the use of course books.
Personally, I believe that a teacher should only use course books as a guidance for the lesson planning. And use authentic and created materials to teach. As is written in the unit: course books tend to be very predictable and not always appealing to the target audience. But I'm aware that it is all about finding your balance. A teacher only has limited time to prepare for a lesson. Creating all the materials yourself is probably not practical as well.
