Unit 11 provides information on the teaching of receptive skills i.e. reading and listening. It starts with reminding the teacher to be aware of what type of reading or listening a lesson is aiming at. Reading/listening for a purpose and for entertainment are different and thus teaching them will also be different. There are certain ways reading and listening take place and understanding of content depends on the ability to perform these actions. These can be taught efficiently and problems with language in the text, topic and task can be dealt with in ways similar to the those suggested in this unit. I have now understood what an ESA lesson would look like when teaching receptive skills.
