Before going into great detail, I must redact my comments from my previous unit reflection and prioritize this unit as my favorite unit! As an all-around fanatic of linguistics, I enjoyed reviewing content from my former studies and seeing how someone else could present teaching the IPA. Despite being the longest unit yet, unit #13's review of stress, rhythm, intonation, and the IPA we're succinct in describing pronunciation and the place and manner of articulation required to produce the necessary phonetic sounds in the English language. In college, I studied linguistics in addition to English due to personal interests; so, I can't say I learned anything new. Although, I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation of the lesson and the methods proposed for teaching the IPA to students. I also enjoyed the examples used to demonstrate differences in stress, as they presented a great example of semantics and how sentences can be interpreted differently based on "how"things are said, and not always specifically "what" was said. For me, the most useful aspect of the lesson are the examples used to explain the manner of articulation because they demonstrate a way to have fun with a class while also being productive. For instance, a former linguistics professor of mine used to mime phonetic sounds, using his own mouth, in class and we (the students) would imitate his form and sounds. It was absolutely hilarious, but it taught me a lot. I think this method is a great way to teach students, and the silly aspect of it can make it a lot of fun!
