Unit #7 was very informative and provided knowledge on how to teach new vocabulary, new grammatical structures, and new language functions. In general, I learned a lot from this unit because it focused more on teaching and less on the English language; something I already know very well. I found the section on teaching language functions to be the most enriching because I was able to connect it to some tutoring experiences I've had. For instance, one time I was trying to explain to a student what are the appropriate responses for declining and accepting invitations, but I failed to produce an accurate explanation for the differences in word choice. Therefore, this section gave me some core distinctions between the different functions utilized when responding, as well as how to present and teach them. Overall, the mock ESA lessons are incredibly invaluable and will be a great resource when working with students in the future.
