This unit was extremely interesting. I have never thought much about phonetics other than the international alphabet system for vowels used when singing in a choir. I do think phonetics are helpful to learn as a teacher, but I think they would be incredibly confusing for students unless they are at an advanced level. I think the rise/fall fall/rise concepts are very interesting and correct, but if I were a beginning or intermediate student these would be too much for me. However, I do think students who want to become fluent in English must learn phonetics eventually.
