This unit sketches out the roles and behaviors of both teacher and student in a learning environment. It analyzes the relationship between teacher and student in terms of their innate personalities and the nature of various classroom interactions. Such an understanding of the various roles a teacher can take on is a necessary prerequisite to determining which role to play, depending on the activity and what you wish your students to achieve. The list of attributes a 'good learner' should have is helpful for me because I have the vocabulary to describe why one student performs better than another. Moreover, I can now aim to encourage and foster such characteristics in all my students to better facilitate a quality learning experience. An understanding of the cultural background of your students is also necessary so as to be mindful of sensitive subjects and more aware of how your student approaches his or her role as a student. An understanding of language levels is helpful to know what areas of the English language should be focused on, and what areas need most improvement.
Overall, this unit gave a brief introduction as to why 'good teachers' likely have 'good students' due to a certain quality of learning interactions.
