This unit specifically based on the use of course books, inlcuding how to choose a good coursebook for your class, and the pros and cons of using a ready-made coursebook. It also mentions using authentic materials in class. At work I get to know many different coursework from major publishers in the world but I have never thought about the disadvantages of using one. I think choosing the best coursebook for my students means that it helps improve their overall English skills and that it lessens the burdern of the teachers in preparation. However, as it is mentioned in this unit, a good teacher should not exclusively use the coursebook, but should analys the need of the learners first before choosing the appropriate content from the coursebook and sometimes he or she needs to find extra materials outside the textbooks to cater for the needs of the students. Looking back, I cannot agree more. I use a very good textbook but some of the activities or games do not fit my students so I need to change it or use another one to replace them.
