The main aim of this unit is to introduce several mainstay methodologies of teaching English as a foreign language. In particular, the ESA approach is explained in detail, including three subdivisions and a bank of ideas for each of the three phases, which I find really practical and useful. Actually some of the ideas are commonly seen in many of my classes too. Another two important aspect of teaching are also included here: correction and feedback. It is necessary for the teacher to correct students' mistakes and errors but knowing when and how to correct is the key. Finally, giving feedback is considered equally important as the previous two aspects. Again, learners will benefit the most if the teacher knows how to give feedback. It is suggested that feedback should focus more on the positive points rather than the mistakes. I cannot agree more. Sometimes learners can carry on learning and keep improving just because they receive positive feedback from their teachers.This happens quite often in young learners or initial phases of learning a foreign language in adult beginners.
