The tense system in the English language learning can be intimidating for many individuals- including the teacher, the teacher in training ( me ) and the students.I understood that EFL has specifically the structure of the twelve tenses. Comparing these tenses with other languages' tense is possible, whereby the students and the teacher should be careful to execute the right translations so errors do not appear.
Each main time has 4 aspects according the EFL, for e.g. the present time contains: Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect and Present Perfect Continuous.
Each one of these aspects has its specific FORM and USAGE. Some of these aspects use participles such as present participle ( Verb+ ing ) and past participle ( Verb+ ed).
Different tenses of the Present have different usage from one another and can be defined as.
Present Simple- Is used to express: habits and routines, commentaries, directions and instructions, fact s, present stories etc.
Present Continuous- Is used to talk about an action that is in progress at time of speaking, to emphasize very frequent actions etc.
Present Perfect - Is used to describe past actions with present results, when we talk about completed past actions that are carried out to an unfinished time period etc.
Present Perfect Continuous- Is usually used to communicate and incomplete and ongoing activity when we want to say how long it has continued in the present or in the future, to express a recently finished activity with results in the present.
There are many ways to include these grammatical structures of tenses into the Activate phase: through different games and communications in between the students in the classroom.
