The focus of this unit is coursebooks and lesson materials, particularly the advantages, disadvantages and best uses of course books. It also tackles visual aids, worksheets and other activities that are appropriate in different situations.
Coursebooks can be a good start in English language teaching since it is a good resource especially for beginner teachers. What I appreciate most about coursebooks is that they provide structured lessons that are flexible and adaptable, so I can still adjust depending on my students’ needs and preference of activities. It also makes it easier to teach the lessons because the coursebook provides a wide range of valuable ideas and topics on its own and offers additional resources like related articles, external links, supplementary videos and self-study support, so I only need little time for lesson planning.
In planning for lessons, I always consider both authentic materials and created materials. Sometimes, students appreciate authentic materials because they are more interesting, and the students can relate more to real life materials. Created materials are also helpful because they can be graded based on the level of the students and are more suitable for classroom use.
